July 19 & 21: MARKET AG  DAY, Kankakee, IL - Holly Froning runs the 4-H program and their booth at the Kankakee Farmer's Market for Agriculture Day. She shares many experiences on the advantages of getting children involved in gardening. She also talks about her Family Ag vacations to orchards in various parts of the US. Her kids love it and wanted to leave Disney Land early so they could go pick peaches! She also gives a great tip on how to make ice cream during a road rest stop, by tossing a can of ingredients back & forth. It great!

July 12 & 14: ALICE WATERS / KENDALL COLLEGE / SLOW FOOD EVENT - This was an honor to interview one of the grand dames of cuisines. She is the owner of Chez Panisse in San Francisco which started the movement in of serving local, organic foods. We also talk to Pam Stoner and Chef Wm. Alexander. They are instructors at Kendall College where Alice Waters was in attendance for this 5 course Slow Food dinner. An absolutely delicious evening! (See photos below)

July 5 & 7: NEW BUFFALO, MICHIGAN, FARMER'S MARKET - Check it out!!! Sundays 9-2 from Memorial Day through Labor Day, located on the corner of Whittaker & Buffalo St (Rt12). I talked to Skippy Farms, Garwood Farms, Wynder Elk Farm, Clayton's Farm. Also, there are tips on 'how to shop a farmer's market'.

June 28 & 30: A Sweet Summer Solstice' Cocktail and Potluck Dinner Honey Cocktail Demonstation and Potluck Dinner at Chicago's Only Inner-City Honey Farm co hosted by Slow Food. We discovered the wonders of an inner-city bee-hive farm.  And  experience a cocktail tasting and demonstration by Southern Wine & Spirits featuring nature's sustainable sweetener-honey! Enjoy Honey Roasted Salmon prepared by Plitts Seafood.

June 21 & 22: BED & BREAKFAST in Harbor Country, MI - with the emphasis on breakfasts. A.J. Boggio from The White Rabbit Inn in Lakeside, Michigan talks about his Inn and The Harbor Country Lodging Assoc. Then it is over to the charming Garden Grove B & B, in Union Pier, to talk to owner, Paula Welsh. Next it is over to the Pine Garth Inn,  also in Union Pier, with owners Vanessa and Denise to talk about this magical Inn. Vanessa's birthday was one big celebration at the Inn. Good food and big fun was had by all.

June 14 & 16: CRACKED EGG COOKING SCHOOL - The Cracked Egg Cooking School is located in Michigan City IN. I sat down with Dorothy Sheehan & Helen Welsh for a lovely afternoon of chat & coffee while nibbling on delicious homemade cookies made by some of their young students. Kids, teens and adults will enjoy the fun, interesting classes these two women have put together, because fun and interesting describes these two lovely ladies!

June 7 & 9: GRADUATION PARTY! It was a college graduation party of epic proportion! My dear friend, Cheryl Gallent Klonowski took us to Saginaw, MI where her nice was graduating. The whole family pitched in to put this memorable day together. Food galore!!

May 31  & June 2: COMFORT FOODS - Many of my friends talk about their favorite comfort foods and share their recipes. 

May 24 & 28: STOP & TASTE THE BBQ! It's out there and I found some of the best! Starting in Kankakee, IL with Bulls BBQ, (815 932-2299) then through Kouts, Indiana to Birky Family Farms and my last stop is in Sawyer, MI at The Road House To Your House.

May 17 & 21:GARDENER'S NOTES - This time of the year, it is all about the vegetable garden. My brother, Alex & I go over our gardening notes. I then go to Froelich's and talk to owner, Colleen Froelich about the vegetables she grows then uses in her beautiful canned goods. (Froelich's, 26 n. Elm St, Three Oaks, MI - 269 756-6002 / 866 626-JAMS shopfroehlichs.com.) NEWS FLASH: New Buffalo, MI is starting a Farmer's Market on Sundays 9am-2 pm edt, running from Memorial Day to Labor Day. We hear it from my interview with David Blum who is spearheading it. He can be reached at 269 469-6342.

May 10 & 14: MOREL FORAY - Yes, there is still time to hunt morel mushrooms, so listen to some great mushroom hunting tips from Michael Rusnak of the Illinois Mycological Association. Also, check out Fungi Perfecti.com and Mushroom Expert.com.

May 3 & 7: MASTER GARDENER'S CLASS - I took the Master Gardener Class through the University Of Illinois Extension in Kankakee, IL so, I interviewed some of my fellow Master Gardeners as well as some of the instructors. The class was extremely beneficial and I am proud to be a Master Gardener.

Nov. 10 & 13: TAILGATING - Fun, fun fun, with folks in the parking lot at Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. We talked to some real die-hard tailgaters. Then we talk to Fred Bogwill about his tailgate Jambalya. He makes a huge batch with a huge flavor! The show ends with tips and a quick recipe.

Nov. 17 & 21: COFFEE CHAT ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS - Casual Cofffee Chat with friends Lonnie Pasquella and Lori Rochowiak. We talk turkey recipes and tips, then reminisce about days gone by.

Nov. 24 & 28: GIVING GIFTS OF FOOD - Val Schuller  tells us of her mouth watering German Cookies. Then Harrise Davidson gives description of her luscious Cream Pie.See her recipe on our Recipe Page. RAFT / ALBC PICNIC - Thanks to Slow Food USA I am getting many interviews. There is a wealth of information so it will be in 2 parts. I went to a Slow Food / Renewing America’s Food Traditions/ American Livestock Breeds Conservancy picnic for about 200 people. It was held in Silas, North Carolina at the Celebrity Dairy Inn (919 742-5176) where they make goat cheese from the milk of Alpine & Saanen Goats. ALBC and RAFT hosted the event with the coordinating efforts of Slow Food. Hope you listen so you can find out why you should be looking for dairy, eggs, poultry and meats from these Heritage Breeds. We dined on Tennessee Fainting Goat, Red Waddle Pig, Ohio Buckeye Chicken. This was the menu:

Dec. 15 & 19: 100 POTLUCK DINNERS - The Cookbook, 100 Potluck Dinners is the work, love and dedication of a group of dear people who have stood by and supported Ibrahim Parlak. Updates on him are at: Free Ibrahim.com.

Dec. 22 & 26: POTLUCK DINNERS - Photographer, Rich Hellyer, from The F Stops Here, in Sawyer, MI hosts an over the top Potluck Holiday dinner. Fabulous! Rachael Collins from Collins Caviar, tells us about the caviar she brought, plus gives us her recipe for her delicious 'Cauliflower Gratin'. Patty ends the program with tips for pulling off your own potluck dinner along with a recipe for Crock Pot Chicken Stroganoff from the web site : http://familycrockpotrecipes.com/

Crock Pot Chicken Stroganoff

6 boneless chicken breasts - cut up
1 (12 ounce) container sour cream
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 package dry onion soup mix

 
Place chicken in crockpot. Mix together remaining ingredients and pour over chicken. Cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours or until chicken is tender. Serve over cooked noodles or rice.or top with baked buscuits.

Dec. 29 & Jan. 3: IMPROMPTU ENTERTAINING - Yes, there is still time to do a little impromptu entertaining, and this program can help. At the end of the program, Patty gives some helpful suggestions that will help you have a no stress, fun gathering. Ken Roselli, who does frequent impromptu parties, starts off the program. Non cook, but great host Sheila Stein joins us next. And as Sheila says, "If I can do it, anybody can!"

Jan. 12 & 16: FOOD & FITNESS PART 1 - Dr. Bart Tyrrell is a Chiropractor in New Buffalo, MI. He, along with his lovely wife, Jeanette, explain the benefits of Chiropractic care. He has helped me immensely. Patsi Gately & Phyllis Baker from The Michigan Wellness Center give great spa ideas on ways to relax and enjoy the year ahead. While all massage therapy approaches can be helpful when used properly, the clinical massage therapist has very specific skills for a variety of physical dysfunctions. At the Massage Therapy & Wellness Center, therapists, Phyllis Baker and Patsi Gately,are certified by the National Certification Board for Massage and Bodywork, are members of the AMTA, and have over forty years combined experience in using body centered therapies.

Jan. 19 & 22: FOOD & FITNESS PART 2 - It's all about "A Beautiful You", which is the name of Debra Tamblyn's advanced skin care practice. She is a wealth of information and will have you keeping your youthful glow. My buddy, Toni Iverson sits in. In her 70's she is quite the athlete. Then I go to Curves, 705 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI and talk to the women who have been given back their energy due to their Curves work outs. They are getting fit while having fun!

Jan 26 & 30: HOW FOOD IMPACTS OUR LIVES - Some heartfelt stories from Karen Haight of Grand Rapids, MI and from Cara Johnston & Lynn O'Connell of IL.

Feb 2 & 6: COOK'S NOTES - Lynn Pregont joins me to share some of her notes on entertaining and cooking. She has great ideas that translate into stress reducers, like 'Elfing' , team cooking and spread sheet organizing. Her recipe for a Broiled Top Round which she called 'Thumbits' is mouthwatering!  I then share my Cook's Notes at the end of the program.

Feb 9 & 13: VALENTINE'S DAY MENUS from area restaurants - I go restaurant hopping in search of Valentine Menus from Michigan restaurants:  South Bend Chocolate Cafe, Bentwood, Casey's Hannah's, Skip's and Brewster's in New Buffalo,  Bailey's and Belle Via, in Three Oaks, Timothy's and Frankie's (269 459-9865) in Union Pier then Soe's in Sawyer.
